The Merewether Women’s Pennants Side could be excused for being a bit crazy with excitement. As after a tiring last week of games & rain catchup games, they have sneaked ahead to win their section. Under a cloudless blue sky and a slight breeze, Rose Allars & Gwen Smith began their game with a 3 to Gwen! Rose hit back with a 4 on the 4th end but Gwen retaliated with a couple of lovely shots making the score 13-6. By the 12th end, Gwen skipped away to a 15-7 lead & Rose was stuck on 7. A couple of 2's and a 4 to Gwen put the game beyond Rose and Gwen took the score to 25-7. The game was played in great sporting spirit, a pleasure to mark. Kevin Club Veteran Takes Out Minor Singles Title 6th October 2020
Kevin "Colonel" Laffey won the Merewether Bowling Club's Minor Singles Title on Sunday 4th October. Laffey took on newcomer Cameron Chaffey and made a solid start leading 12-2 after 10 ends of play and 19-11 after 17. Chaffey picked up 8 shots over the next 4 ends to level at 19-19. Both players went shot for shot over the ensuing 14 ends playing good draw bowls with the game locked up at 29-29. After 35 ends Laffey drew 2 shots to win 31-29 to claim the 2020 Minor Singles Title..

The first week of weekend pennants saw Tea Gardens come away with a win of 20 to 9. Scores were tight until half way through when Tea Gardens skipped away with the game. Winner, Kathryn Cornish defeated Merewether’s new-comer Lesley Afflick, in style! Callan jumped off to an early lead whilst Greg got warmed up. Brilliant bowl after brilliant bowl, the pair tussled until Callan took charge of the game with long ends to win 31 to 13. The final of the Minor Singles Championship has now been run and won. In an entertaining game, Arthur Campbell proved too strong for Wayne Mogdon. Arthur started out strongly, before Wayne was able to fight back to be 14 all before again moving out to the lead which he held to finally run out a 31-20 winner.
